Under-18s preview: Bradford City (H)

31 January 2020

The Iron's Under-18s return to Youth Alliance League action on Saturday for their third match in a week, when they host Bradford City (11am kick-off).

The game will be played at Appleby Frodingham's home ground at Brumby Hall, DN16 1AA, and we'll have live coverage on the Academy Twitter site, in addition to a report and reaction from the fixture.

SCENE-SETTER

United bounced back in midweek following a 6-2 defeat against Lincoln City last weekend to take a point at Rotherham United, although it could have been all three as the side led through Cameron Wilson's first-half strike, only to concede in the closing stages to draw for the first time in the Youth Alliance League this season.

The match in midweek was one of four games in hand over league leaders Doncaster Rovers, cutting the gap to four points with three more games in hand to follow. United remain in second as Mansfield failed to take advantage of dropped points with a defeat of their own last weekend.

Just two points separate fourth right down to 10th (second bottom) as the division tightens up, with a victory for the Bantams this weekend potentially propelling them from eighth to fourth. There will be dropped points around the Iron this weekend as Rovers travel to face third placed Mansfield Town, so Scunthorpe will be eager to take maximum points and take advantage of whichever way the result goes.

Bradford were last in action last weekend, beating the Stags 3-0 at home, so the encounter will be no easy feat.

TEAM NEWS

After six weeks without a game, two came along for the Under-18s in the space of three days, and now they have the third in the space of a week.

Tom Collins came back in between the sticks after assuming the role of Rory Watson's understudy, but with Ian Lawlor arriving on loan from Doncaster Rovers, he returned to the youth set-up for some vital gametime for his progression.

Elsewhere, the side were back to full strength at Parkgate in midweek, with only first-year scholar Ben Crosher sidelined with his hand injury from pre-season.

LAST LINE-UP: Collins, Baker, Lobley, D Gallimore, Barks, Train, Wilson, Shrimpton, Jessop (L Gallimore, 85), Dawson (Wilkinson, 62), Silva (Chadli, 82).

IRON SUBS: Kemp, Virgo.
