Report: Iron U18s 3-1 Huddersfield Town U18s

7 April 2019

The Iron’s Under-18 side beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 at Brumby Hall on Saturday.

The away side took the lead in the second-half, however Scunthorpe reacted well by quickly turning it around with goals from Harry Jessop and Oliver Kemp.

Jessop ensured the win when he netted his second of the afternoon with a minute left.

After defending well for the opening 15 minutes, the Iron broke forward with Joey Dawson, who centred a ball into the box, but Luca Chadli’s header was cleared off the line.

Five minutes later, United had another chance when the ball set up nicely for Cameron Wilson, who hit his volley over the bar.

The Iron were again unlucky when Charlie Barks struck the crossbar. He found some space to shoot on the edge of the area and crashed his effort off the woodwork.

Just after half-time, Jack Harrison was forced off following a foot injury with Kemp replacing him.

There were then claims for an Iron penalty. Jessop chased down the Huddersfield defender, won the ball and got across him, but the referee waved away penalty shouts after Jessop was brought down inside the area.

On the 60th minute, Baker worked hard to cross the ball and set up Chadli, however the goalkeeper saved his shot.

Four minutes later, the Terriers scored against the run of play to go 1-0 up. The visitors scored directly from a free-kick just outside of the 18-yard box.

The Iron responded quickly, however. Chadli attacked down the left side and his cross was turned home by Jessop, who headed the ball into the net, making it 1-1.

Moments later, Chadli was again involved to help Scunthorpe take the lead. His corner was met by Kemp, who guided his header past the goalkeeper.

Goalkeeper Tom Collins was then called into action, producing a fine save to keep his side in front.

United completed their victory when Alex Wilkinson pulled the ball back to Jessop, who finished it home in the final stages of the contest.

It was a fantastic team performance – the defence defended well and we pressed well with a young team.

Scunthorpe United: Collins, Baker, Lobley, Gallimore, Barks, Harrison (Kemp, 47’), Wilson, Shrimpton (Wilkinson, 82’), Dawson, Jessop, Chadli.

Unused substitutes: Crosher, Boswell.
