The Iron’s Under-18 side were beaten 3-1 away at their Bradford City counterparts on Saturday morning, in a game decided by fine details.
The hosts’ first two goals came against the run of play but were good strikes from a Bantams point of view.
For the first, Scunthorpe were caught on the counter-attack by some excellent, precise passing, which culminated in a very good finish.
The second was a great strike from 25 yards at a stage of the game when it was pretty even.
United kept going when it was 2-0, sticking to the task and still creating chances, but were hit on the counter attack again, with the Bantams netting their third.
United got a penalty in the closing stages, which David Allasan fired home.
The game as a whole was a learning curve for Scunthorpe, in terms of the right timing or correct weight of pass. United themselves had a couple of opportunities in the final third but either picked the wrong pass, or made the wrong decision at the important time. The key thing to learn from this was to take chances when on top.
