The Iron’s Under-18 team were defeated 2-1 at Oldham Athletic on Saturday morning.
Full respect to the Latics, who played some excellent stuff on a pitch that was difficult to play on. United simply didn’t have the quality to compete with them on the day.
It was a good test for the Iron, and the home team set the standards for where we need to be at. There is a lot of work to do over the next two weeks, with fixtures against Port Vale (Youth Alliance Cup) and Chelsea (FA Youth Cup) coming up, to get back to the standards displayed in the second-half against Rotherham last time
United’s goal came through James Kalu, who came on as a substitute, who curled an effort into the top corner from 25 yards.
The next game is away at Port Vale next weekend.
