The Iron go into this evening's encounter unchanged from the weekend's 2-2 draw with Brackley Town.

IRON: Fitzsimons, Kouogun, Boyce, Clunan, Beestin, Whitehall, Roberts, Rowley, Scales, Denton, Rose.

IRON SUBS: Evans, Ubaezuonu, Beck, Law, Fadera.

Words: James Whitbread

The Iron are facing a side in red hot form, looking to get back to winning ways after a defeat to Rushall and then picking up a point in their most recent trip to Chorley.

After picking up a hard fought point away to Chorley, the Iron face Brackley Town who sit just one point above United in a huge match between two sides battling for promotion. In the 2-2 thriller against Chorley, Mike Calveley scored the opener in the fifth minute, before Callum Roberts scored a fantastic free kick to equalise on the stroke of half time. After Jack Sampson put the hosts back in front in the 50th minute, Danny Whitehall got the final goal of the game to share the points.

The meeting at the Attis Arena is not the first of the season, in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season, the Iron came out on top as winners on the road quite convincingly. Alfie Beestin opened the scoring, as the Iron went into half time a goal to the good, with the same player doubling the Iron's lead just after the hour mark. Just ten minutes later, Andrew Boyce made it 3-0 to secure the all important three points.

Brackley Town come into this game in some impressive form, unbeaten in their last five games, and with four consecutive wins the visitors are set to pose a difficult challenge. Only Curzon Ashton have picked up more points on the road than Brackley, with the second best away record, Town have collected 27 points from their 13 away games, with eight wins, three draws and two losses away from home. Brackley have been deadly going forward on the road with the most goals scored away from home having scored 20 goals on the road. Brackley’s forward line have been crucial to their season as they have an array of goalscorers.

A man in exciting form for our opponents is centre forward Matt Lowe, despite having just five goals this season from his 25 appearances, Lowe has two in his last two. He bagged the winner away against promotion rivals Curzon, and also netted a last minute winner in a 4-3 thriller away against Alfreton. As well as his five goals this season Lowe has also got three assists this season and will be looking to carry his momentum with him into the clash at the Attis Arena.

Another important player for Town is 26-year-old attacker, Connor Hall, Hall has got seven goals and two assists this season and will be keen to get back on the scoresheet in a fixture of this magnitude.

The Iron will hope their defense is up for the task as they face a side who have had no struggles in front of goal as of recent times. With just seven goals conceded at home, United’s defensive line will feel capable of getting back to winning ways, with the best defensive record in the league.
