First team manager Andy Butler reflects on one in, one out and looks ahead to his side's home league encounter against Scarborough Athletic.

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old defender Joe Starbuck on a short-term deal after a successful trial period with the club.

Starbuck began his career by coming through the ranks of the Iron's rivals Grimsby Town's youth set-up. After a number of appearances for the Mariners first-team he was snapped up by then Premier League side Sheffield United on a long-term deal.

After several seasons of consistent starts for the Blades U23's side, Starbuck would enjoy loan spells in the National League North with both Kidderminster Harriers and Boston United before his eventual release from Sheffield United in the summer of 2023.

After departing youth football, the talented full-back would link up with former Iron boss Nigel Adkins at Tranmere Rovers last season where he made just a handful of appearances in his short stint with the League Two club.

Joe is eligible to make his first appearance for United at the weekend when his new side take on Scarborough Athletic in the National League North, with the defender handed the number 21 jersey.

Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the return of our annual Community Day when we host Chester on Saturday, March 22nd (3pm kick-off).

In what will be the climatical stages of the Vanarama National League North, both sides are bound to be in contention for promotion to the National League, making for a superb spectacle at the Attis Arena.

Last season's Community Day was also against Chester, with the Iron breaking the attendance record for a National League North encounter, eclipsing the previous record of 6,311, and beating it by 1,200, with 7,511 in attendance on the day, with the help of a healthy 1,100 spectators from the Seals.

For this season's Community Day, we will look to emulate the successes of last year, where the football provided on the pitch matched the atmosphere off it, with the spoils shared in a 2-2 draw.

The club is committed to making the football club as accessible as possible to the broader community, and will be putting on a number of offers for this day.

TICKETS FOR GOOD

The club has also linked up with Tickets for Good for the game! Tickets for Good has helped over 35,000 members, their friends and their families attend events across the UK. They know how important live events are to society and culture, but they also know they can be difficult to attend - every year tickets are getting more expensive and harder to find.

Tickets for Good is here to break down that barrier, by giving free and discounted live event tickets to the NHS and charity workers.

REMINDER ABOUT SUPPORTER CONDUCT

While our Community Day is anticipated to be a celebration of the local community, bringing together thousands of people to a sporting event, and looking to break the National League North record for a second time, Scunthorpe United must remind supporters about their conduct at this encounter.

Last season, both clubs were charged with misconduct by the Football Association in relation to failing to control spectators in the encounter against Chester on March 2nd, 2024 at the Attis Arena.

As a result, on Monday, September 23rd, 2024, an individual appeared in Grimsby Magistrates’ Court. As part of the punishment, the supporter has received a national football banning order, prohibiting them from entering any football stadium for a period of three years.

Following an extensive investigation by the Football Association, the club was charged with misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E21 in respect of the match. It was alleged that Scunthorpe United failed to ensure that spectators and/or its supporters (and anyone purporting to be its supporters or followers)
conduct themselves in an orderly fashion whilst attending the match.

The club admitted the charge and provided a detailed statement in mitigation. Having considered the club’s extensive submission, the FA imposed a fine of £2,000 and warned the club over its future conduct.

We would like to remind supporters that if there are incidents of this nature reported, then the Football Association have the power to impose serious financial penalties on the club which will almost certainly impact on its playing resources. The frequency in which these incidents have taken place, particularly last season, coupled with the result of this charge, continue to make this a real possibility.
