Management

James Moody

General Manager

Joined: March 2013

(VOLUNTEERED WITH THE CLUB FROM 2009)James has been part of the Iron family for many years, working tirelessly behind the scenes to support the club he cares deeply about, first writing a column in the programme at the age of 13 before starting as a media intern at 17, and then undertook numerous part-time and then full-time roles.During his 13 years employed so far at the club, he has worked closely across several departments and played a key role in the day-to-day running of the club. His experience, commitment, and understanding of Scunthorpe United’s values made him the natural choice to be appointed as the club’s General Manager in October 2025.Often referred to as the Voice of Scunthorpe United, Moody has taken on role after role over the years. From being the club’s PA announcer on a match day to Ticketing Manager and previously Retail Manager, behind the scenes, James has made it his personal mission to strengthen links between not just the club and its supporters but also the players and the fans away the field of play, using his roles as PLO (Player Liaison Officer) and SLO (Supporter Liaison Officer) to effect and in the process helping to re-establish links that may have been lost over the years.His previous employment history also saw him work at Tesco for a total of five years, from a week after leaving school in 2011 until 2016, with his job at the Iron running parallel to the Extra store across the road for over three years.Passionate about Grassroots football, James is also a semi-professional referee, also qualified as a mentor, coach and observer, and operates in the Northern Premier League as an assistant referee (when time allows!) and in the FA Women's National League on a Sunday. As well as this, James also holds roles as Referee and Fixtures Secretary for the Lincolnshire League in Step 7, Registration Secretary in the LIFL U18s League, and also a role within the Lincolnshire FA to retain and progress newly qualified match officials.

    Julie Taylor

    Stadium Maintenance, DSO, SLO, Mascot Coordinator

    Joined: August 2024

    Initially starting as a volunteer herself, Taylor holds the title of Stadium Maintenance at the Attis Arena, leading the club's fantastic team of volunteers that help to ensure the stadium stays in the best condition possible.Elsewhere, Julie is also the club's DSO (Designated Safeguarding Officer) and mascot coordinator. She is responsible for organising mascot activities on a match day, while responding to any safeguarding issues that may arise.In addition to these roles, Julie has recently been appointed the club’s Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO), giving her a key bridge-builder role between the club and its supporters following a number of years as a Fan Liaison Officer (FLO) prior to being an employee. This means she is now a main point of contact for fans to raise feedback, questions or ideas; helping to ensure supporters’ voices are heard and integrated into club decisions, linking closely with the newly formed Voice of the Fans group.

      Martin Hopper

      Stadium and Operations Manager

      Joined: March 2025

      Martin Hopper serves as the Stadium and Operations Officer at Scunthorpe United, overseeing match-day operations and ensuring the safety of players, officials, supporters and staff at the Attis Arena. In addition to this, Martin is also the club's Health and Safety Lead and is responsible for ensuring that the Iron follow stringent measures to keep everyone safe every time they step on the footprint.Before joining the club, Hopper spent three decades with Humberside Police, joining in February 1995, building his experience in the field of public safety, security management and large-scale events, which led him to his appointment with the Iron in March 2025 following his retirement.During his time with the police, Martin served as a Public Order Trainer and a Public Order Public Safety Advisor before being promoted to Police Inspector in June 2019 where he managed Birchin Way in Grimsby before becoming Public Order Public Safety Bronze Commander in October 2019 making him vastly experienced in crowd safety in football and other large-scale events.

        Phil Hough

        Club Secretary

        Phil Hough is the Iron's Club Secretary, serving as a key figure behind the scenes in the club’s day-to-day administration.A significant, and vastly experienced senior figure of the football club, Phil ensures the smooth, compliant, and professional operation of the football club; especially in areas where accuracy, deadlines, and regulation are crucial. His main roles include the governance and compliance of the football club, along with match and player administration.Joining the United in 2023, Hough is a well-known and respected figure amongst the English Football pyramid, due to having an enormous amount of experience in his role and at one stage was the youngest secretary in EFL history at just 21 years old, commencing with Lincoln City back in August 1980.Formerly of the Imps Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday and Northampton Town, to name just a few, Hough has been a key figure in helping to stabilise the club in recent years, offering endless support and guidance to club Chair Michelle Harness and her Board.Prior to joining the Iron, Hough was also CEO and Company Secretary of the Lincolnshire Football Association, before returning to Lincoln City in 2019 as Club Secretary to the Lincoln City Women before taking on the General Manager role of the side in August 2022 in what was the side's first-ever GM.

          Glyn Sparks

          Head of Partnerships

          Joined: January 2024

          (PREVIOUS SPELLS AT THE CLUB STARTING FROM 1986)Another member of the team who simply bleeds claret and blue, Sparks’ journey with the Iron dates back to when he was originally a ball boy at the Old Showground back in 1986. From that moment onwards, he’s played his part in more or less every role imaginable within Scunthorpe United, from programme seller, tea boy and his better-known 12-year stint as club mascot ‘Scunny Bunny’, Sparks is a well-known friendly face around the Attis Arena.Originally becoming Head of Partnerships ahead of the 2022-2023 National League season, Sparks departed the club to take the role as Head of Commercial at York City in April of 2023, although it would prove to be a short-lived stint in Yorkshire, as he returned home in January of the following year, coming back to aid the club under the new ownership and Board of Directors.Since his return, Glyn has been responsible for managing the club’s sponsorships and commercial relationships. He works with local businesses and community organisations to create partnerships that support both the club and the wider North Lincolnshire area.Since taking on the role, Glyn has focused on strengthening local ties and finding new commercial opportunities, helping the club build a stronger off-pitch presence.Vastly experienced in the sales and commercial world, outside of his roles within football, Glyn has previously had a 14 year stint at InterSport in the town centre, over seven years at BAPP Group of Companies, over four years at Just 1 Source, while also holding roles at Energie Fitness and Fabricast. Sparks' relationships with all of his former employers in that he still works with a number of those companies closely shows how much of a valued member of staff he was during each role he's held in his career.

            Jake Pullan

            Media and Marketing Executive

            Joined: July 2024

            (VOLUNTEER SINCE JULY 2023)Following a successful work experience placement in June 2023, Pullan joined the club on a volunteer basis ahead of the 2023-24 season, and began offering his services on both home and away match days with the Scunthorpe United media team.After the conclusion of his GCSEs, Pullan would be offered an apprenticeship with both the club and Cambridge Marketing College, creating a more permanent role as a Media and Marketing Executive as natural progression took its course in the staffing structure behind the scenes. This role has been assumed since the beginning of 2025, and since joining the club on a full-time contract, Jake has become the voice of the Question of the Week and tirelessly continues to expand the club's reputation through both static and video content creation.A boyhood Iron fan who’s been a keen journalist from a young age, he’s just one of the club’s many success stories, with Scunthorpe United consistently promoting from within over the years.

              Hospitality

              Devon Riley

              Hospitality and Events Manager

              Joined: July 2025

              Overseeing the club’s event operations and hospitality services at the Attis Arena, Riley joined the club in the summer of 2025 and is responsible for coordinating both match-day hospitality and non-match-day events.Working closely with a range of club partners and Head of Partnership Glyn Sparks, Devon’s role within the club helps to enhance the fan experience around the relevant match-day spaces such as the Wroot Homes Iron Bar, the club's restaurant and the MKM Executive Lounge. Alongside this, Riley aims to expand the club’s non-matchday offerings, including conferences, celebrations and community events, looking to make efficient use of the Attis Arena’s event spaces.
