A full Welsh international with seven caps, Davies started his career as a member of Shrewsbury's youth team and then moved on to Manchester City before joining Oxford United in August 2004.

After two seasons at the Kassam Stadium, he moved to Hellas Verona in Italy’s Serie B during 2006-07 before going on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers midway through that campaign.

In 2007, Davies made a permanent move to Oldham Athletic, which also saw a prolific loan spell at Stockport County.

A permanent move to Brighton followed two years later, and that period included loan stays at Yeovil Town and Port Vale.

A 2010 switch to Chesterfield saw him notch 23 goals in 41 games, and a two-year spell at Championship side Barnsley followed that, where he scored 19 goals in 60 appearances.

He then switched to Bolton Wanderers in the same division for a two-year spell, including a loan stay at Preston, before making the switch to Wigan in 2015 and helping them win the League One title last season.

The 6ft 2in frontman scored in Wigan’s 3-0 home win over the Iron in August 2015. In total, he has scored 91 goals in 245 league starts.
