The Iron's youth team have been knocked out of this season's FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON following a 1-0 first round defeat against Bradford City at the Coral Windows Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Bantams took the lead on 20 minutes through Rory Carson's free-kick, which beat the despairing dive of Ross Hyslop in the United goal.

Scunthorpe became more of a threat as the opening half wore on, and forced the hosts to defend deep.

The home goalkeeper made a terrific save from Jake Picton early in the second-half, clawing away the defender's looping header after a long throw into the penalty box.

Tony Daws' side kept pushing for an equaliser, and could have had it late on if Niall Canavan's (pictured) thumping header hadn't rebounded back into play off the crossbar.

They are next in action on Saturday when they visit Mansfield Town in the league.

Team: Hyslop, Congreve, Coleman, Picton, Canavan, Maguire, Gibbons (Williams), Bladen, Thomas (Gibbs), Wright (Dean), Cross.
