YOUTHS EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN
Posted on: Sat 18 Oct 2008
The Iron's juniors are now seven matches unbeaten after drawing 0-0 with runaway Puma Youth Alliance league leaders Darlington at Birch Park on Saturday morning.
Tony Daws' side put in an excellent display against the Quakers and pushed their visitors all the way.
Striker Josh Thomas had three one against one chances, but their goalkeeper saved superbly twice and the forward then fired wide in the last minute.
United dominated the second period, but couldn't finish off their opponents.
They were also steady at the back, well led by captain Niall Canavan (pictured), with him and central defensive partner Jake Picton proving outstanding when called into action.
The players were very disappointed to draw at the end as it was a game they should have won.
Youth development officer Tony Daws said: "I was very pleased with how the lads performed.
"The lads are making some excellent progress and did enough to win.
"I'm delighted we were as good, if not better than them, and our second-half play should have won the game.
"We are unbeaten in seven now, and I hope we can keep the run going."
