The club involved aren't letting the striker out just yet. I can see why, they're in no rush really and have all August to let him out. They could sell him too. All we can do is move on. We'll revisit it but in the meantime if we see someone else we really like we'll try for that. Yes, we got a knockback but three or four other clubs went in for that player at the same time and got a knockback too. I won't name the player. We won't sign anyone before the weekend but we've got enough in at the moment. What we're trying to do is add more competition to the squad. Chances are it will be a loan. There's been a dialogue between everybody and that's a good thing. When there isn't any dialogue that's a poor sign. I'm hopeful we're close. Boss Alan Knill believes they can still come to an agreement though, saying: "I think it's still ongoing. The agent came out and put his side of the story across and then the club put their side out. I'm hopeful that somewhere we'll meet in the middle to discuss Michael's future. As far as I'm concerned, he wants to continue playing for us and we've spoken and he expressed that opinion. We're delighted with that and we'd prefer it if we could reach an agreement. Michael has come in though and said to us that whatever happens he will give his best for Scunthorpe United. He was in Thailand and we had a verbal agreement that we wouldn't sign another player in his place and he wouldn't join another club. However, I got his agent calling me and telling me he decided to join Rochdale as his ex-manager at youth level is now the boss there. The only thing I was disappointed was that he left the call to the agent and didn't make it himself. I would probably have had a better opinion of him had he done it himself, but he didn't. He let the agent do it. These things happen, but I prefer people to be honest and open. At the time when I was speaking to him I told him 'we see you as one for the future, we have three midfield players here who in my opinion are probably better but you'd be one for the future'. He seemed to like that and wanted to come but suddenly he changed his mind. You have to look at it philosophically and say he's not the player for us." - more.
