RESERVES NET FIRST WIN

Posted on: Wed 21 Oct 2009
The Iron's reserve side recorded their first win of the totesport.com Central East Division season, winning 2-1 against Rotherham United at the Don Valley Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Millers took the lead in the 38th minute through Grant Darley, but Garry Thompson levelled for Scunthorpe within a minute as he slotted home from just inside the area.

In a game of few chances Sam Slocombe was drawn into a terrific double save just before Marcus Gibbs, the second year youth team striker, headed in the winner on 83 minutes.

Professionals Slocombe, Thompson, Jordan Spence, Andrew Wright, Niall Canavan, Matt Sparrow, Ian Morris, Jake Picton and Kenny Milne all lined up for the Iron, with Milne playing the first half and coping admirably against the Millers, looking comfortable and winning numerous challenges.
