The Iron's second string won 2-0 against Rotherham United at the Don Valley Stadium on Wednesday night.
Goals from attackers Peter Winn and Jonathan Forte sealed the victory for Tony Daws' side.
The home team started strongly, but United responded well and almost took the lead on 20 minutes through Ian Morris' effort, which rattled the crossbar.
Winn then missed a chance moments later as Scunthorpe continued to come into their own in the game.
They took the lead on 27 minutes when Winn raced through, taking the ball past Marc Joseph and firing the ball past Steven Cann.
The Millers continued to have chances, but Scunthorpe remained strong and doubled their lead in the 50th minute through Forte.
The former Rotherham man dribbled into the box and thrashed his effort into the top corner.
That was the game over as a contest, and the Iron held on as skipper Andy Crosby got another 78 minutes on the comeback trail.
He was among ten professionals starting for the second string.
Scunthorpe's team: Lillis, Wilcox, Lea, Crosby (Canavan, 78), Picton, Wright, Hurst, Morris, May, Winn (Godden, 74), Forte (Gibbons, 83).
