United completed the signing of striker Paul Hayes from Barnsley in June 2007.

The Iron swooped for the 23-year-old forward, who was out-of-contract with the Tykes.

Hayes signed on a three-year deal, and bolsters the Club's striking options as they enter the Championship.

As the player is under 24 and both Clubs can't agree a price, a Football League tribunal will decide the fee.

Hayes left Glanford Park for Oakwell two years ago when his contract expired, and chose Barnsley despite interest from a vast array of Championship and League One clubs.

However, after an excellent first season under Andy Ritchie, which saw the club promoted from League One via the play-offs, he had since fallen out of favour at Oakwell.

Dagenham-born Paul started his career with Norwich City but did not make the breakthrough at Carrow Road and moved to Scunthorpe in December 2002 after a successful trial spell.

He became a cult hero at Glanford Park as the Club took over the final year of his apprenticeship, with the superb goals in the home matches against Southend United and Hull City making the fans sit up and take notice - with Hayes spearheading a play-off push alongside Martin Carruthers.

He struggled for a place in the side during the following season as on-loan Glasgow Rangers star Steve MacLean partnered Steve Torpey and stole all the headlines up front.

But, with MacLean gone, 2004/05 was very much dominated by Hayes' goalscoring exploits as the Iron marched to promotion from League Two. He topped the scoring charts that season, hitting 19 goals.

He also netted a famous goal against Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup.

While with Barnsley in League One two seasons ago, Hayes managed to net in both matches against the Iron and his signing represents a significant coup.

All in all, he managed to net 18 goals in 63 starts for the Tykes.

With his Barnsley first team chances limited he signed for Huddersfield on a month's loan towards the end of last season, managing to find the target once in four games.
