Classic Match

This week we reflect on one of the greatest games in the club's history - the 1-0 win at Leyton Orient in the 1999 Third Division Play-Off Final.

For Iron fans it was a game which had everything, with their team playing superb attacking football at times, as well as clinging on for life as the O's pushed for an equaliser towards the end.

The winning strike came on six minutes, with Alex Calvo-Garcia heading home a left-wing cross from Gareth Sheldon to seal the success in the early stages.

The O's huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the Iron house down, while Scunthorpe could have doubled their advantage late on when substitute Darryn Stamp had a shot cleared off the line.

When the final whistle blew, the celebrations lasted long into the night as United made history with their first ever win at the Twin Towers.
