Great Game

On Saturday, March 18, 2006, United ran out as 2-1 victors at Chesterfield - making it four wins in five games after coming from behind to beat Chesterfield 2-1 at Saltergate.

Brian Laws kept faith with the same eleven that beat Hartlepool in midweek with Peter Beagrie remaining on the substitute bench.

Straight from the kick-off the home side immediately applied the pressure winning a corner on the right. O'Hara curled the ball into the near post where Musselwhite got down low to his right to turn the ball round the post.

From the second corner Musselwhite again had to be alert this time tipping the ball round the post high to his right.

The pressure was finally relieved when the referee awarded a free kick after Musselwhite was fouled on the third corner with the ball ending up in the net.

The relief was shot lived as Chesterfield did go in front on 14 minutes when Hurst's cross from the left looped over Musselwhite and struck the far post and Larkin was quickest to react to force the ball home.

The Iron's first chance came on 29 minutes when Torpey released Taylor on the right but after carrying the ball into the box, he chipped the ball beyond the far post.

Chesterfield continued to enjoy the better of the first half and Hurst threatened again just before the break when he cut inside Taylor but dragged his shot wide of the near post from the edge of the box.

The Iron started the second half with much more purpose and should have equalised inside two minutes. Torpey flicked the ball into the path of Keogh but despite poking the ball past Beckwith the ball struck the post and the danger was cleared.

United did equalise on 47 minutes when Richard Hinds headed home Michael Rose's left wing cross.

Just seconds after coming on Peter Beagrie supplied the corner for Andy Crosby to head home on 64 minutes.

The Iron came close to adding a third on 71 minutes when Keogh met Baraclough's cross with a close range header but Beckwith tipped it round the post.
