NO TIME FOR DWELLING - SLOCOMBE

Posted on: Wed 22 Feb 2012
"Goals change games," goalkeeper Sam Slocombe philosophically declared after his Iron side were beaten 1-0 by Walsall on Tuesday evening.

The statement was particularly relevant as Scunthorpe, on top for much of the match, seemed to do everything but score on the night.

"The result is fairly hard to take," he told The Iron Player.

"We've played quite well in the second-half and had opportunities, but we've just not managed to take them.

"It was a brilliant opportunity for us to pick points up from a team around us and make a little bit of a gap between us and some of them teams and we've let it slip.

"But we can't dwell on that, we've just got to step up and we've got games coming up that are just as important."

Shotstopper Sam also seemed to think that the goal was very much in parallel with many of the other sloppy strikes which United have conceded this season.

A few have proven costly, and this one was no exception.

"I think the goal is what epitomises the season, I think it was a sloppy goal and we've seen that on multiple occasions this year," he explained.

"We've tried hard to stop that and I think in the last couple of games it has shown and we've played well. But it's happened again on the night, but like I said - we can't dwell on it.

"We've just not had the luck up the other end of the pitch on the night."

See much more from Sam Slocombe, David Mirfin and Alan Knill on The Iron Player, with extended highlights to follow at 9.30pm on Wednesday night.
