Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012
As featured in our matchday magazine THE IRON, we get to know more about club captain Cliff Byrne.

What position did you play in as a boy?

Peter Ryan, Ashby
I started off playing as a centre-back when I was young so I haven't ventured out of defence if i'm being honest.

Who were the first team you ever played for?
Sophie Louise, via Twitter
The first side I played for was Tolka Rovers back in Ireland, and I enjoyed it a lot.

What team did you support as a boy?
Lucy Betsy, Lincolnshire
I grew up supporting the mighty Celtic when I was a young lad and still do.

What was your most treasured possession growing up?
Claire Currie, Scunthorpe
I didn't really have a treasured possession growing up. Now though I'd have to say my family is the thing I treasure most.

What was your favourite film as a child?
Martin Tarrant, via Twitter
It's got to be The Jungle Book. Just for the songs, it's got to be every kid's favourite doesn't it? And Baloo is great isn't he?

What was your first pet?
Paul Gallagher, Leeds
I had a little Jack Russell called Max when I was a young lad. He was a lovely dog.

What was your favourite subject at school?
Lacey Taylor, Bottesford
I was quite good at business studies to be fair. I think if I wasn't a player then I would have gone into that somehow.

Was you good at any other sports when you were younger?
Ian McCallum, Ashby
I don't think I had one programme in particular, although I liked The Simpsons.
