Iron manager Nigel Adkins is under no illusions about how difficult a test Sheffield Wednesday will pose his side in the Carling Cup second round on Tuesday night. The League One newcomers, who were relegated from the Championship last season, are unbeaten so far this campaign and have a number of seasoned campaigners in their ranks.
"It is one on the toughest ties of the round, when you look at their side they've got some experienced players," said Adkins, speaking on
The Iron Player.
"We won't hide away from the fact it's going to be a tough game.
"We've already played them in pre-season and beaten them.
"That was a difficult match for both sides because it was a very competitive game.
"What that fixture managed to do was help both teams get off to good starts to the season.
"On paper they've got more Championship experience then we have but, as we all know, the game is not played on paper.
"We're looking forward to the tie for the simple reason that having got into the fourth round last year, if we win we can get in the hat again for the third round.
"And who knows? If we get that moneyspinning tie we're all after it might just keep this football club moving in the right direction.
"We try and win every game of football we play, it's as simple as that.
"The league is our priority and then we turn around and try and go as far as we can in the cup competitions, for the simple reason that it helps finance this football club."
