BOSS RUES TWO POOR GOALS

Posted on: Sat 21 Aug 2010
Iron manager Nigel Adkins felt his side did enough in the second half of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at league leaders Queens Park Rangers to earn a draw.

The Hoops went two goals ahead through opening period strikes from Bradley Orr and Heidar Helguson, but Scunthorpe were improved in the second 45 minutes according to the boss, and had chances - with Jonathan Forte coming close on two occasions inparticular.

"I was disappointed to lose to the two goals we conceded," said Adkins, speaking on The Iron Player.

"We should have done better from a corner for the first one while Niall Canavan slipped up to let Helguson in for their second, but he'll learn from it.

"We took a very good QPR side, who will be in the top two at the end of the season, but we had opportunities to win.

"Jonathan Forte had a couple of great opportunities and had one of those gone in it could have been a different game.

"Michael O'Connor had a great chance too, and I felt we played a lot of football in their half of the pitch during the second period..

"At the end of the day we played an exceptional side who worked hard to try and deny us.

"I was delighted with how we kept going all game - Joe Murphy made some very good saves in the match."
