The Iron won the Lincolnshire Senior Cup for the fourth consecutive year after beating Grimsby Town 4-3 on penalties.

Dwayne Samuels and Lee Ridley both missed penalties for the Mariners, while Andrew Wright, Michael Collins, Rory Coleman and Matt Godden all scored for United.

The actual game itself ended 1-1, as Adam Boyes put the hosts ahead early on, but Michael Leary soon levelled for the Mariners in a lacklustre 90 minutes which offered little in the way of entertainment..

The Iron went ahead on three minutes when Adam Boyes converted home from close range after a ball from the left by Coleman caused danger in the Town penalty area. It was a well taken finish by the former York striker, who flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and slotted in, with the Grimsby defence napping.

However, the visitors levelled just four minutes later when Michael Leary crashed home past Sam Slocombe from close range after Robert Eagle's corner had only been partly cleared. That was just after Alan Connell had drilled an effort wide for Town.

The Mariners looked up for it, as they looked to stop Scunthorpe from claiming the silverware for the fourth straight season.

The game was a bit flat in the first half and Coleman tried to liven it up with two speculative efforts from range - one of which was saved by goalkeeper Nick Colgan while the other went over the crossbar.

On 36 minutes, Bobby Grant's effort from distance - after being teed up by Michael Collins - was well stopped by Colgan.

Three minutes later he tried to go for goal again, seeing his curling effort from distance well saved by the Mariners custodian.

The game was being played a gentle pace, and the crowd were very quiet as the Iron tried to forge their way back ahead.

In the one minute allocated of stoppage time, Grant curled a free-kick goalwards which Colgan had to tip out.

Shortly after the break, Eagle played in Coulson for the visitors, whose lofted effort went wide of goal from the left angle of the penalty area.

At the start of the second period, the Mariners were on top of the game and looked most likely to score the second goal. Darren Kempson headed over the crossbar from Eagle's corner on 63 minutes. Then, soon after, Connell's drive drew a stop from Slocombe.

Scunthorpe were offering little as an attacking force, and the dominant away side came close again 15 minutes from time, as Eagle's corner connected to the head of Connell, but the former Bournemouth man put his chance wide from six yards out.

The home side's first shot on target of the second half arrived 10 minutes from time when Andrew Wright drove forward and saw his shot from distance easily saved by Colgan.

Slocombe was drawn into a magnificent stop with five minutes left as Connell's powerful drive from distance was superbly tipped wide by the ex-Bottesford Town shotstopper.

It was the last meaningful chance of the match, as - with no extra time played in Lincolnshire Senior Cup games - the match went straight to penalties, with the sequence of those taken at the Rainham Steel end as follows:

Connell scores - SUFC 0-1 GTFC
A. Wright scores - SUFC 1-1 GTFC
Leary scores - SUFC 1-2 GTFC
Collins scores - SUFC 2-2 GTFC
Samuels blasts over the bar - SUFC 2-2 GTFC
Coleman scores - SUFC 3-2 GTFC
Coulson scores - SUFC 3-3 GTFC
Godden scores - SUFC 4-3 GTFC
