The former Republic of Ireland U21 international, who came through the ranks at the Galpharm Stadium, scored 19 goals in 173 appearances for the Terriers but left for a new challenge this summer.
He told
Scunthorpe-United.co.uk: "I think it's important to take every game as it comes but it will be good to face Huddersfield so soon after leaving.
"They are a club I have a close affinity with. it's where I came from and they gave me the opportunity. I'll be forever grateful for that.
"I will only ever have good things to say about Huddersfield as well because they're a great club.
"I'm sure they will be successful this season.
"I can only focus on what I want to do with Scunthorpe though, although it will be nice to play Huddersfield early in my career after leaving there.
"It's football and you've just got to get on with it.
"I've still got a lot of friends there and have a good relationship with a lot of people at the club, but I'm a Scunthorpe player now and I concentrate on giving 100 per cent for them."
