Talking to the media after Saturday's 1-0 pre-season friendly win over Sheffield Wednesday, Iron manager Nigel Adkins explained why midfielder Michael O'Connor was an unused substitute and defender Niall Canavan wasn't involved at all.
"
Michael O'Connor was just feeling his thigh a bit in the warm-up," the boss told
The Iron Player.
"He's been a little uncomfortable this week so we didn't want to risk him because he's going to be a big player for us this year."
"
Niall Canavan has a bit of patellar tendonitis," added the manager. "That is because the ground is a bit hard so he hasn't trained with us all week.
"Hopefully that will settle down a bit."
Next up it's York City away on Tuesday night, and that is a game which could see Scunthorpe make it five wins from five pre-season matches.
While victories breed confidence, Adkins isn't too bothered about results at this stage - insisting it's all about putting ideas worked on in training into practice.
"To be honest, when it comes to pre-season games I'm not really interested in the result," the boss stated.
"What I'm interested in at the moment are the process goals that we put together during the course of the game, for example things that we've worked on, on the training ground.
"We've changed things around in training and in preparation for a game in terms of how we want to defend set-plays. I felt we handled that well on Saturday.
"We're working on little things and now's the ideal time to see if we can put them into practice.
"You only find out if they work or don't work by doing them.
"As a team we spoke about the sloppy goals we conceded last year and we're working hard to reduce the number of chances the opposition get to score a goal.
"We got another clean sheet on Saturday and we did well."
