Midfielder Josh Wright is more than happy with how his pre-season has gone so far. After a good first half of the campaign last year, the former Charlton man would be the first to admit that the season fizzled out for him towards the end after he suffered from illness.
The 20-year-old has come back fit and refreshed though after working hard all summer.
He wants to play in every game and be a key part of a side looking to finish as high as they can in the Championship.
"The illness I had in January time took a lot out of me last season," he admitted to
The Iron Player.
"I lost a lot of weight and needed time to recover.
"I was in and out of the team from there but recovery is going to be a key thing this year.
"Hopefully I can stay away from illness and injury and have a good solid season.
"I've been pleased with how it's going. I came back in good shape and have worked very hard over the summer.
"That always helps when you come back in.
"We've been doing a lot of work with the ball since we've been back though and if you don't like that you shouldn't be a footballer.
"I'm feeling fit and good, I've got some good game time so far too.
"You can do as much running as you like but it's the playing time out on the pitch that counts.
"So I hope I can keep fit, keep playing and keep involved so I'm ready for the start of the season."
Wright has been utilised as a holding midfielder in a 4-3-3 formation so far this summer, and he is enjoying playing in that position - hoping he's done enough to be selected in the starting eleven at Reading on the first day of the campaign.
"I've played there for England U19's, as they use three in the middle and I've played in that formation for a lot of clubs over the years," he added.
"I like it because I enjoy getting on the ball and trying to make things happen.
"It suits me and I'm glad to be playing that way."
