Report from the Hawthorns

Scunthorpe ran out 5-1 victors in their second friendly of pre-season at Brigg Town on Wednesday night.

Following on from Saturday's 4-0 win at Bottesford Town, Nigel Adkins' men came from behind to seal another comfortable victory.

Using a 4-3-3 formation again with Josh Wright as the holding player, Chris Dagnall came close for the Iron early on before he linked up well with Matt Godden, who drew a stop from the hosts' goalkeeper.

Jason Maxwell gave the hosts, who were giving United a good game, an early lead by breaking clear and sliding past Joe Murphy.

The Iron created chances though, with Godden and Dagnall testing the goalkeeper.

Bobby Grant fired wide from close range after good work by Dagnall, but Scunthorpe eventually levelled through ex-Brigg loanee Matt Godden on 31 minutes, receiving the ball from Grant and taking his time before picking his spot.

Moments later, Cliff Byrne struck a rocket of a shot just over the bar from the right-hand side of the penalty area after good work by Godden.

Michael Raynes then put the away team ahead three minutes before the break, firing home at the far post after Grant's corner.

Dagnall could have made it three before the break but his effort was tipped wide.

Kenny Milne was replaced by Niall Canavan shortly before the break too but appeared to be fine in the warm down at half-time.

There were seven further changes at the break, with Rob Jones among those coming on, and the giant centre-back headed Rory Coleman's corner into the net in the 50th minute.

Coleman drew a smart stop with a free-kick from range, and Godden also came close with a drive from the edge of the area before Jones headed home again 15 minutes later to make it four from Coleman's cross.

Finally, Adam Boyes prodded in from close range at the second attempt in the 76th minute to seal a comfortable win.

Iron's first half team: Murphy, Byrne, Raynes, Milne (Canavan, 43), Nolan, J. Wright, O'Connor, Collins, Dagnall, Godden, Grant.
Iron's second-half team: Slocombe, Nolan (Williams, 65), Mirfin, Jones, Canavan, A. Wright, Togwell, Collins (J. Wright, 80), Coleman, Godden (Raynes, 83), Boyes.
