Iron attacker Garry Thompson hailed the equalising strike against Nottingham Forest on Sunday as his goal of the season. The former Morecambe winger, 29, made it nine goals since January when he let fly with a spectacular late effort to seal a 2-2 home draw with the Tricky Trees.
The goal, which can be viewed in our bumper extended highlights package on
The Iron Player from 2.45pm on Monday, was a great way for Scunthorpe to end a momentous season.
And Thompson, whose red hot form has helped inspire United to safety during the second half of the campaign, was in buoyant mood after the game.
"Personally, I felt it was my best goal of the season," said the former Morecambe wideman, who fans can see an interview with on
The Iron Player now.
"I say that just because it was in a home game and it helped get us a point against a top side.
"It took me to nine strikes for the campaign - one short of ten - so I'm fairly pleased.
"I'm delighted with the goal and happy we've finished the season strongly.
"We were disappointed to be behind, but we showed our fighting spirit and came back into it.
"We're all pleased to get a point and it was a nice way to sign off in front of our own fans.
"We bounced back well after being two down at half-time."
