On-loan left-back Jim McNulty missed out on celebrating the end of the league season with his Iron team-mates on Sunday night. The defender had to make the 250-odd mile trek back to parent club Brighton and Hove Albion straight after the 2-2 home draw with Nottingham Forest.
He needed to be in training with the Withdean club on Monday morning, with his temporary stay at
Glanford Park now ending and the League One season finishing a week later than the Championship one.
The 25-year-old defender admitted though that he would be very interested in signing for Scunthorpe should he be given the chance in the summer.
The former Stockport man picked up a terrible injury which meant he lost a kidney last year, and then he injured his ankle ligaments halfway through his month and a half loan stay with United.
The game with the Tricky Trees on Sunday was his second start for the Iron, and third appearance overall.
And while he feels he did well, he believes once he's back to full fitness Scunthorpe supporters would see the best of him.
"It was enjoyable to play in a home game," said the chirpy Liverpudlian, who subscribers can see an interview with on
The Iron Player.
"I've really enjoyed my spell here and have settled in nicely. The lads have been great, as has the gaffer (
Nigel Adkins) and it's been a great place in general. I've had a good time here.
"As I've said before, I had a bad injury at Brighton and understandably while I was out the new manager signed a player in my position.
"Because of this I found my chances limited. They made me available during the last week of the loan window and I had a few options but I picked Scunthorpe.
"Maybe I was a bit impatient. I hadn't been on the bench for that long there but I was dying to be involved in games.
"I took a chance here and I think I've done okay.
"It's difficult to come into your best form when you've been out for so long.
"I played one game at Preston but picked up a frustrating injury.
"I think if the season was longer I probably wouldn't have risked playing on Sunday, but I wanted to try and play a home game. I strapped the ankle up and tried to play.
"I would like to stay, but it's up to Brighton. It's out of my hands. I've got two years left there and I honestly don't know what will happen so first and foremost I think it's a case of whether Scunthorpe want me.
"If they did, I would like that. I haven't spoken to Scunthorpe yet though.
"Brighton haven't indicated whether I'm available to move but it all depends on whether Scunthorpe want me and what Brighton have to say.
"A lot will depend on the talks between me and the manager (Gus Poyet) down there.
"I just want to know his plans. I'd like him to be fair and I will let him know that I've really enjoyed my time at Scunthorpe and if there's an option available I'm really interested."
