Scunthorpe skipper Cliff Byrne is back in contention for the Easter Monday trip to Swansea City after serving a five-match ban.The defender admits it's been difficult sitting out for more than three weeks following his third red card of the season at Ipswich Town, but is pleased the suspension is now over.
Andrew Wright has played in his place for the last five matches and Byrne feels the former Liverpool trainee has done well.
He told
The Iron Player: "I'm eager to get back in. It won't be easy because nobody has a divine right to play but we're all desperate to play and give the manager a good problem in terms of who to select.
"Wrighty has done ever so well. He'll be disappointed with the own goal (against Blackpool on Friday) but I know from previous experience that it's hard to come in, dominate and take your chance.
"We have competition here and it's healthy for the squad all round.
"It's been difficult, I'm not a good watcher at the best of times but it gives you a different view of things.
"I've been watching the games with a keen eye and it can make you aware of certain things that happen on the pitch when you watch from different angles."
After losing 4-2 at home to Blackpool on Friday it's vital United bounce back at the Liberty Stadium and Byrne feels his side can achieve that.
"We've got to react in a positive manner," the Irishman added.
"It's good that we've got a game coming so quickly on Monday.
"We were very disappointed with the goals we conceded on Friday, but that's football.
"It's going to be a difficult run-in. We've just come on the back of three straight wins so you've got to take the good with the bad.
"We won't accept that though. We've worked on it over the weekend and will go out looking to improve on it on Monday."
