Garry Thompson fully enjoyed playing in the role usually reserved for injured leading marksman Gary Hooper in Saturday's vital 2-1 home win over Plymouth Argyle. The former Morecambe winger partnered
Paul Hayes in attack and put in a livewire performance to help his side to three points.
He netted the vital equalising goal soon after Jamie Mackie had put the visitors ahead, but felt he could have added another couple with better finishing.
"I enjoyed it, I liked the physical side of it," Thompson told
The Iron Player.
"I played against two big lads who liked to dish it out and luckilly I got on the scoresheet.
"I think conceding that goal spurred us on as a team.
"The fans got behind us and that really encouraged us. That's what we needed, they helped us get over the finish line in the end.
"We all want to play in this league next year. We want the fixtures to come out in June and see the big teams that we'll be playing against in this league.
"I maybe could have scored a couple more, but I was pleased with my contribution.
"I'm not sure if it was phenomenal goalkeeping (by Plymouth's David Stockdale) or poor finishing.
"I should have tested him more with some of my efforts.
"I managed to score on Saturday and hopefully I can do so again on Tuesday when we play Peterborough."
The Iron climbed out of the relegation zone as a result of the win but it's important they stay out of the bottom three for good now with just nine games left.
Jim Gannon's Posh, who sit at the foot of the division, visit
Glanford Park on Tuesday evening for another vital Championship clash, and Thompson says nothing less than three points will do against a side who thumped Scunthorpe 3-0 at London Road back in October.
He added: "Peterborough is an even bigger game than Plymouth was.
"We've done half the job by beating Plymouth.
"We know these are two massive games - at home - and we have to get six points from them.
"The fact we got the win at the weekend will make Tuesday even more interesting."
