Iron manager Nigel Adkins hailed the spirit shown by his side as they defeated their relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle 2-1 at Glanford Park on Saturday.Jamie Mackie put Argyle ahead midway through the first half but
Garry Thompson, playing up front, equalised from close range four minutes later.
Halfway through the second period,
Martyn Woolford then struck a deflected winner which saw his side climb out of the relegation zone and above Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday.
"We knew come the final 10 games of the season that it was going to be a nervy time," said Adkins, speaking on
The Iron Player.
"We prepared well for it and I felt the lads were magnificent. We could have scored eight or nine goals today.
"We had some great opportunities. The goalkeeper made some wonderful saves.
"We defended well,
David Mirfin and
Michael Raynes especially.
"
Andrew Wright had an interesting afternoon because I felt their left-winger (Yannick Bolasie) was outstanding on the day.
"We created lots, and we need to be more ruthless but we know we can win games of football at home.
"We use the term TCUP - think correctly under pressure - and I felt we had that steady nerve about ourselves.
"I know whatever team I pick there will be people saying I should have chosen a different one, but I've got confidence in the players and they believe in what we're trying to do to win a game of football.
"We're trying to give our supporters another fantastic year next season.
"Everyone's together as one. We knew
camaraderie and team spirit was going to be vital at this stage of the season.
"We've worked on it all year and I think it's plain for all to see.
"We've got a group of players who will all back each other up and we're all together as one.
"We have a massive goal threat in our team, and that was even without
Gary Hooper today."
