The Iron's youth team defeated their Burton Albion counterparts 2-1 at Birch Park on Saturday morning.

They took the lead through first year striker Aron Wint on 22 minutes, as he turned from a throw-in and rocketed a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

Scunthorpe made it two on 76 minutes when James Thomas went through and lobbed the goalkeeper.

Burton pulled a late goal back five minutes from time with a header from a free-kick.

Wint was presented with two good one-on-one opportunities with their goalkeeper saving well on both occasions.

Youth development officer Tony Daws said: "It was an excellent performance.

"We had three U16s and two U15s on the pitch at the end of the game."
