Scunthorpe United Reserves 4-1 Huddersfield Town Reserves
Report from Glanford Park
The Iron's reserve side defeated their Huddersfield Town counterparts 4-1 at Glanford Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Niall Canavan headed the second string into an early lead, converting home from Rory Coleman's corner.
Matt Godden then added a second goal, with Richard Dean nodding Coleman's short corner back across goal for the first year professional to score.
Huddersfield pulled a goal back through Michael McCaffery, with there being a question of offside as the striker tapped in from the penalty spot after being played in by a deflected shot.
Godden made it 3-1 before the half-time break - lashing in from the edge of the box after a neat lay-off by Jordan Thewlis.
It could have been five by the break too, as Aron Wint missed a one-on-one and Dean volleyed straight at the goalkeeper from ten yards.
Godden completed his hat-trick after the break, with a nice finish after being played one on one with the goalkeeper.
It was an excellent performance from what was effectively the youth team, alongside goalkeeper Sam Slocombe and the four first year professionals of Matt Godden, Rory Coleman, Niall Canavan and Jake Picton.
Former Middlesbrough left-back Ashley Corker, who is currently on trial with the club, played at left-back.
Team: Slocombe, Picton, Corker, Palmer, Canavan, Maguire, Wint, Dean, Godden, Thewlis, Coleman.
Substitutes: Crosby, Williamson, Crook.
