WE'LL GET OUT OF IT - RAYNES

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010
After seeing his side fall into the relegation zone for the first time since the opening day of the season, defender Michael Raynes insists United have enough about themselves to get out of trouble.

Saturday's last-gasp 1-0 defeat at Ipswich Town means Scunthorpe are 22nd in the division on goal difference.

Connor Wickham found himself in acres of space in the second minute of stoppage time to win the game for Roy Keane's men, and that was a bitter pill for the Iron, who had defended so well up to then, to swallow.

"We just don't know what happened. I don't know how the lad (Wickham) found that much space," Raynes told The Iron Player.

"I went for the header but couldn't get back quick enough and he seemed to have all the time in the world to put it in the net.

"If we want to stay in this division we have to stop stuff like that.

"We have a good game at Newcastle on Wednesday to bounce back in now and we'll look forward to that. Hopefully we can get a result.

"I think that's the hardest we've worked since I've been here.

"Everyone's effort was absolutely top class but a schoolboy mistake has cost us.

"We're absolutely devastated about it.

"We know how hard it is going to be to stay up but with the squad we have we're 100 per cent confident we can get out of it.

"There are still 11 games left to play."
