BYRNE FACES FIVE-MATCH BAN

Posted on: Sun 14 Mar 2010

Defender Cliff Byrne faces a five-match suspension following his third red card of the season in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Ipswich Town.

The captain was dismissed early in the second half after referee Pat Miller adjudged him to have brought Jack Colback down.

Soon after Damien Delaney was sent off for the hosts after bringing down Jonathan Forte.

"We will be appealing," said manager Nigel Adkins, speaking on The Iron Player.

"Should their player (Damien Delaney) have been sent off after as well? He wasn't the last man.

"Cliff is adamant that the lad has just ran into his shoulder.

"I've not seen the video yet, and it's always important to see that, so can't give my view on it but Cliff is adamant.

"I haven't spoken to the referee yet so I don't know what it's for, but a straight red card suggests violent conduct."

Byrne was previously sent off at Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion.
