O'CONNOR TAKES THE POSITIVES

Iron midfielder Michael O'Connor felt his side could have taken at least a point from Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Scunthorpe played well but succumbed to early goals from Roman Bednar and Gianni Zuiverloon as the Baggies went top of the division.

"They played well in the first 20 minutes, we didn't start too good," O'Connor told The Iron Player.

"Once we got settled down though we started to play football because there was nothing to lose.

"Before half-time we could have sneaked a goal to make it 1-1. If we had done that you never know what would have happened.

"We did well on the night, the performance was good but obviously it's the result that matters."

The Northern Ireland international returned to the starting line-up for the game, making his first start in just over three weeks following a two-match suspension.

He was fairly pleased with his display, adding: "It's been very frustrating to watch but to be fair the lads have done well so I can't really have any complaints.

"There are a lot of games coming up and I just have to keep myself going and keep doing well.

"I hope I did enough (to keep myself in the team for the Leicester game on Saturday) but you never know.

"We've got a small squad here and have a lot of games in a short space of time."
