BYRNE BANNED FOR TWO GAMES

Posted on: Wed 10 Feb 2010
Iron defender Cliff Byrne will be banned for two matches following his red card against West Bromwich Albon.

The right-back was shown a late straight red card for a foul on Andy Slory, and preventing what referee Kevin Wright felt was a goalscoring opportunity.

"The player ran across Cliff and he was very unfortunate," said manager Nigel Adkins after the game.

Byrne will miss Saturday's game at Leicester and next Tuesday's home encounter with Barnsley.

It was his second dismissal of the season, following his red card at Middlesbrough in December.

Adkins added he won't confirm until the weekend who will take the captaincy in Byrne's absence.
