"WE SHOULD HAVE CLAIMED THREE POINTS"

Posted on: Mon 18 Jan 2010

Iron midfielder Michael O'Connor felt his side missed out on a great chance to claim three points when they drew 1-1 with Cardiff City on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international scored a stunning free-kick in the draw with Dave Jones' side, but United were pegged back when Peter Whittingham's late shot took a deflection off David Mirfin and looped over Josh Lillis and into the back of the net.

"I'm not happy with a point personally. I felt we played well and we should have had a penalty late on too," he told The Iron Player.

"The goal they scored was a fluke as well so we're not happy really as we felt we should have had three points.

"It's just one of them things, they hit a speculative shot, it took a deflection and looped over our goalkeeper but that just shows how far we've come since the first day of the season when we're disappointed to be drawing with Cardiff, who are fourth in the league.

"I think we were just unlucky really. We had enough opportunities to kill the game off and we need to start taking them.

"At least we got a point I suppose but we were down at the final whistle because we felt it should have been all three."
