Iron manager Nigel Adkins was delighted after his side gained a point at Reading on Saturday, but also felt his team could have won the game.United had a
Gary Hooper goal to thank as they drew 1-1 at the Madejski Stadium, and it was a game in which the home side had plenty of chances to extend their lead.
Indeed, Scunthorpe could have snatched all three points right at the end as substitute
Jonathan Forte wriggled past three players before shooting wide of goal from just inside the area.
When asked by the press afterwards if he felt his side had deserved a point, he said: "We came here with a counter-attacking plan to get something from the game and we have done that.
"We showed great character and commitment from a small and close-knit group of players.
"Reading are an exceptionally good footballing side who will cut teams to pieces, but the lads worked hard for each other.
"I think we are much better equipped to stay in the Championship than we were last time we came up. We're on 23 points now and four matches unbeaten.
"Jonathan had a great chance to win it at the end, and we also had other chances throughout but it was a good point for us.
"Today I am going to say thank you very much, we have picked up a valuable point. We showed great spirit, character and endeavour to be the best you can be."
