Iron manager Nigel Adkins has revealed the full details of the injury that forced goalkeeper Joe Murphy off midway through the first half of Tuesday night's 2-0 Carling Cup third round home win over Port Vale.
The Republic of Ireland international was replaced by Sam Slocombe, who kept a clean sheet on his first team debut.
Adkins said it was too early to tell if the club's No 1 would be available for the league derby with Doncaster on Saturday and that they would assess the situation over the next two days.
"Joe Murphy has a situation with his arm where the nerve has gone dead from the elbow down to the hand," said Adkins, speaking on
The Iron Player.
"He's gone to have an X-ray on his neck to make sure there's no bone damage on there because the nerves which enter the neck go through the shoulder and all the way down the arm.
"There will be some form of nerve entrapment along the way but hopefully that will resolve itself as quick it has come on.
"We'll just have to wait and see on that one.
"But how well did
Sam Slocombe do when he came on? I thought he looked assured, confident and his handling and kicking were both very good.
"He pulled off some cracking saves towards the end and we're delighted with young Sam.
"It just shows all the hard work (goalkeeping coach)
Kevin Pressman is doing with him on the training ground."
The club aren't able to bring goalkeeper
Josh Lillis back from his loan spell at Grimsby Town until next week should he be required.
