PREVIEW: GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY (A)

Posted on: Tue 28 Jul 2009

Scunthorpe continue their pre-season preparations on Tuesday when they visit Gainsborough Trinity in their sixth game of pre-season (7.30pm kick-off).

So far, Nigel Adkins' side have managed to score 27 goals in their warm-up matches, conceding just one, and while gaining fitness is the main objective during pre-season they will be aiming to continue that run too, with just four games remaining before the big Championship kick-off at Cardiff City a week on Saturday.

After Gainsborough, Scunthorpe visit Lincoln City for the final of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup on Thursday night and then face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday at Glanford Park, followed by the visit of Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers next Tuesday.

Definitely out of Tuesday's game at the Northolme Stadium is defender David Mirfin, who is suffering from a swollen ankle and who the Iron will also be hoping can recover before the start of the campaign.

Elsewhere, left-back Marcus Williams may appear after recovering from an Achilles problem. He could have played in Thursday's 5-0 win over a Jersey XI but manager Nigel Adkins decided not to risk him.

Kenny Milne is making excellent progress but is unlikely to be risked as Scunthorpe expect to name two different sides for both halves of Tuesday's game.

Gainsborough have impressed so far this season and will be no pushovers. Their squad includes veteran striker Luke Beckett, formerly of Stockport, plus ex-Blackburn man Darren Dunning.

TICKETS

Trinity have confirmed that tickets will cost £6.00 adults and £4.00 concessions while U11's will be admitted for free.
