Jersey XI 0-5 Scunthorpe United
Report from the Springfield Stadium
United beat a Jersey select XI 5-0 in Saint Helier on Thursday night
Ben May scored twice, while Rob Jones, Jonathan Forte and Kevan Hurst also netted in the success at the Springfield Stadium.
May opened the scoring with a great header, connecting with a cross from left-back Ian Morris.
He then powered in another header - his seventh goal of pre-season - from a Hurst cross as the Iron continued to threaten.
Jones toe-poked in his first goal for the Iron after defensive partner Niall Canavan knocked down a corner.
Jonathan Forte took his pre-season tally to five with a shot from close range after he had been headed through.
Then Hurst completed the scoring with a fine solo goal from the right.
This result means Scunthorpe have scored 27 times in five pre-season matches, conceding just one.
It could have been much more on the night, as Sam Togwell rattled the post with a shot.
"We had numerous other opportunities too," boss Nigel Adkins told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.
"It was a really good work-out for us - it was a competitive game.
"We played a very good side, who recently won the Island Games.
"The pitch was also in a very good condition - there's been a lot of rain and it suited us.
"We're very pleased with how it went."
Adkins added that the club have the stadium booked again for Saturday afternoon and the squad will play a game among themselves.
"We had hoped that Bordeaux were going to come to play us, but they couldn't make it," he continued.
"It's a very good pitch and we look forward to using it again."
David Mirfin was replaced on the half-hour mark because of an ankle injury, with first year professional Canavan replacing him.
"It was a shame that we had to bring David off," Adkins added.
"We'll assess things in the morning and see how he is then."
Josh Lillis started the game in goal, with Cliff Byrne, Jones, Mirfn and Morris forming the defence.
The midfield lined up with Garry Thompson, Togwell, Michael O'Connor and Hurst, while Forte partnered May up front.
Canavan, Martyn Woolford, Adam Boyes, Matt Godden and Josh Wright also received run-outs.
Lillis, Byrne, Jones and Morris all got a full 90-minute run-out, which pleased Adkins as the Iron look to have everybody fit and firing for the season opener at Cardiff City in just over a fortnight's time.
"We've got a few little niggles," he concluded. "But nothing major. We're pleased with where we are at this period of time."
