United manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to see his team win 2-1 at Bottesford Town in their first friendly of pre-season and hailed the whole afternoon as a positive experience.

Jonathan Forte scored a first-half brace to help guide his side to victory, and the Iron chief was particularly pleased with his team's performance in the first 45 minutes.

The fact they created several chances also satisfied the boss.

"A lot of the players managed to get 45 minutes of football under their belt and that was the intention for us," he told Iron World.

"It was great to see Jonathan Forte get on the scoresheet, and he could have scored more, as could have several others.

"I was pleased with the way that the first half went, but I felt the players needed to get a bit more up to speed in the second half.

"Well done to Bottesford, they did well. It was a nice occasion, all the lads were here and they all signed autographs at one of our local teams.

"Bottesford are the club which we brought Sam Slocombe in from and it was nice to support one of our local teams.

"And that's important from a community point of view, that we're out and about looking after our supporters and local teams.

"It was an excellent turn-out of fans, and they certainly saw a good game of football with plenty of chances."
