Midfielder Ian Morris is more than willing to continue his conversion to left-back next season if that's where boss Nigel Adkins wants to play him.The 22-year-old former Leeds youngster, who signed a new two-year contract on Friday afternoon, finished the end of the last campaign in that slot and proved more than capable there as Scunthorpe got through their three play-off games to win promotion back into the Coca-Cola Championship.
"I felt I had a great end to last season in that position and I'd be more than willing to play there if that's what the manager decides," Morris told
Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.
"We'll just have to see how things go in pre-season but I'd be absolutely delighted to start the season in the team and continue where I left off last year.
"You could see in training today (the Iron's first proper session of pre-season) that all the lads were really hungry and had a sharpness about them, so it's going to be a tough battle for everybody to win a place in the team.
"There was a lot of fitness work done and everyone seemed well up for it."
He had a loan spell at Carlisle last season before the play-offs and, despite interest from a couple of clubs, Morris insists that staying at Glanford Park was always the most probable option.
"It certainly wasn't a hard decision," Morris added.
"I was always likely to sign a new contract but I felt it was best arranging things when I got back for pre-season.
"Just one or two things needed sorting out but I'm delighted to sign and I'm looking forward to an exciting year.
"There were a couple of offers from other clubs but they weren't the right option for me.
"Staying up is our collective goal, but the aim for me personally this season is to get into the starting eleven and stay there.
"If we can celebrate staying up and I can have a solid, consistent year then I will be more than happy.
"We're all confident we can stay up. We're really looking forward to testing ourselves at that level again and we're much stronger going into it than we were last time.
"I've had a great summer, I've had a chance to rest up and get away, and I've also done some fitness work too, but I'm ready for the season now, as are all the lads."
