Iron defender Cliff Byrne was elated to score the goal which put Scunthorpe in the League One play-offs and ranked it as one of the greatest moments of his footballing career.The Irish club captain headed in a terrific late equaliser on a dramatic afternoon at
Glanford Park to help his side pip Tranmere to sixth place in the division.
"I'd say it's just about the best moment of my football career given the magnitude of the match and what was at stake," he told
Iron World.
"To score late on was brilliant and the manner of it makes it more special for us.
"It was a day of high emotions but we got what we needed. There's a lot of belief here and we always feel we can get a goal.
"The game didn't go as we'd originally hoped, but we got the result that we needed in the end which is all that matters
"We're absolutely delighted to make the play-offs. It's a terrific achievement for us and gives us a fighting chance of winning promotion back to the Championship.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy to get the goal.
"A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes and I'm just delighted for the club that I was the man who got it."
