Manager Nigel Adkins hailed his team's response in their 2-2 draw away at league champions Leicester City. The Iron bounced back from a disappointing 3-3 draw at Northampton, in which they were pegged back twice, to get what the boss viewed as a great result at the Walkers Stadium.
Paul Hayes' sublime strike early in the second half cancelled out a goal by Michael Morrison.
Grant McCann then struck from the penalty spot to put United ahead. Morrison headed in a late leveller, however, to ensure a share of the spoils.
Scunthorpe re-enter the League One play-off zone on goal difference as a result and know they can finish the season in them should they beat Cheltenham and Tranmere at home in their two last games.
"What a fantastic evening's entertainment it was," said Adkins, speaking on
Iron World.
"We came into the lion's den of the Walkers Stadium and what an impressive structure it was.
"Leicester were in party mood, but we gave them a great game.
"Credit to Nigel Pearson, Craig Shakespeare and his staff because they are worthy champions of the division.
"It was great to see our players bounce back from the disappointment of Friday night's 3-3 away draw at Northampton.
"We played with a verve and a vigour. We created numerous opportunities, as well as working extremely hard.
"We could have scored three goals in the first half, and went on to score a fantastic one through Hayes and McCann's penalty.
"On another day their first goal might not have been given because there was a handball.
"For their second goal, we should have had a free-kick because Steve Howard, who is a top striker, wrestled
David Mirfin to the ground.
"They're a big, powerful side we didn't deal with the ball in for their second goal.
"In all, it was a cracking night's entertainment and we're in that business.
"We've now got two games to go and I think it will go down to the wire in our last game against Tranmere, which will effectively be a play-off game in its own right.
"I always said it would be a fantastic season for Scunthorpe United if we reached the final game still in a position to challenge for promotion, and that is what we've done."
