HURST WILL ONLY GET BETTER - BYRNE

Posted on: Wed 18 Mar 2009

Iron captain Cliff Byrne has hailed the form of left-winger Kevan Hurst, who played a key role in Tuesday night's 3-0 home win over Hereford United at Glanford Park.

The former Sheffield United wideman has been back in the side for the last five matches, and has managed to score two goals - including a fine individual effort against the Bulls - as well as providing many chances for team-mates with his crossing ability.

"Kevan has been magnificent in recent weeks and full credit to him," said Byrne.

"He's really chomping at the bit to play and, while he will be disappointed with this season up to now because he hasn't played as much as he'd like, he's come into the side and given the manager a major headache.

"He's a fantastic player and torments full-backs. I know what it's like to play against someone like him and he's so effective.

"He's done brilliantly since he returned to the side five games ago and he's only going to get better as his match fitness picks up.

"It's the right time of the season for him to do that too, and it shows the quality we've got here when players can just come into the side and make an impact like he has done.

"Martyn Woolford has done ever so well in that position all season, and has recently just dipped out to recharge the batteries and get ready for the final push.

"We've got two excellent left-wingers here and I bet any team in our division would take them."
