United wideman Kevan Hurst is feeling the benefit of getting regular first team action again, and was delighted to notch the second goal in Scunthorpe's 3-0 home success over Hereford on Tuesday night.

It was a fine individual effort from the former Sheffield United man, who received the ball from Gary Hooper and jinked past his man before slotting across goal from the right and beating the dive of the Bulls' 'stopper.

It was a commanding display from Nigel Adkins' side, who were always in control against the relegation-threatened Bulls.

"I think this is just what we needed," Hurst told Iron World.

"We put in a decent performance and, although I felt we could have scored more goals, 3-0 was a good scoreline and I feel we deserved it.

"Of course, goals difference could decide things at the end of the season but three goals is a decent winning margin.

"We didn't concede either, so we can take a lot of positives from that.

"The Hereford match was must-win. To be honest the next couple of home games are too.

"I've said it several times, but we just need to concentrate on ourselves and focus on getting the results because if we do we will be in the play-offs at the end.

"We're in a strong position going into the final stages of the season. We've got the fans behind us and we're always confident at home so that's what we need really - to push on in our home matches and take it from there."

Hurst added that his celebration for the goal, in which he and several of his team-mates sat on the ground and pretended they were steering a boat was inspired by manager Adkins' 'grab an oar' comments.
