United manager Nigel Adkins praised an accomplished attacking performance from his side in their 3-0 victory against struggling Hereford at Glanford Park on Tuesday night.

Gary Hooper, Kevan Hurst and Paul Hayes all struck as Scunthorpe comfortably got back into the top six of League One by winning the first of four successive League One home games.

"It was an excellent result and performance," said Adkins, speaking on Iron World.

"This is a game that everyone would have expected us to win - and we've done it.

"We played some high tempo football and played some entertaining, attacking stuff.

"Our counts show that we had 26 attempts at goal - 12 on target and 11 off target.

"We played some exciting football and scored three good goals.

"Obviously we would have liked more goals but most importantly we kept a clean sheet - our first for a while.

"We showed a desire to play well for each other, the supporters are happy, the lads have a smile on their faces and worked very hard for each other."
