United manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to see his side extend their unbeaten run to eight games, as a ten-man Iron side drew 2-2 at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Scunthorpe were two goals ahead, but Joe Murphy's sending-off for a foul on JJ Melligan changed the game.

The hosts were galvanised and managed to net two goals in quick succession. However, it was the visitors who finished the game strongest.

Adkins, speaking on Iron World, said: "We went down to ten men away from home and, all of a sudden, we were pegged back to 2-2.

"But we still kept two up top, we played 4-3-2 and we showed great fitness.

"Matt Sparrow, Marcus Williams and Gary Hooper showed great energy towards the end, and Hooper and McCann could have both scored towards the end.

"Our counter-attacking play was top-drawer - as were the energy and fitness levels that we've got. We've come away from home and got a point.

"It bodes well for us, you go away from home and still get a point despite going down to ten men.

"There's great character amongst our team and a great desire to do well. We believe we should have got something from the game - which we did, we got a point."
