Striker Gary Hooper was buzzing after scoring the first hat-trick of his professional career in the 4-1 win at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The 20-year-old made it six goals for the season with a treble against the Seagulls at the Withdean Stadium - helping Scunthorpe to their fourth straight win.

United are now fourth in League One and will be seeking to extend an excellent run against second-placed Carlisle United next weekend.

However, Hooper was modest after his success - preferring to lavish praise on his team-mates rather than focus on himself.

The former Southend man also says he might take a look at the League One goalscorer charts in the newspapers on Sunday morning, after getting some more important business out of the way.

"I thought it was a good, solid performance from the lads," he told Iron World.

"It was a shame that we couldn't keep a clean sheet in the end, but I thought I took my goals well and the lads helped.

"It will be a good feeling to see my name among the top goalscorers. I think I'll be on the golf course first thing - I'll take a look later on though."

Hooper didn't celebrate his hat-trick goal after been injured by Colin Hawkins' challenge in the build-up to the strike.

He added: "After I shot, the defender studded me in the ankle and I didn't celebrate becauze I couldn't feel my ankle.

"I was waiting for the physio (Alex Dalton) to come on and move it, and the feeling came back to it - but I couldn't run so I came off.

"I will go in on Monday morning and see the physio to see what he has to say regarding me being available for next Saturday."
